The Trust's Secondary School Students' Art Scholarship 2008

The Trusts and Lopdell House Gallery are proud to present our annual exhibition profiling the top art students from West Auckland. This year, 32 aspiring young artists from 8 different high schools have entered into the competition and exhibition.

We are pleased to announce that judges Simon Clarke, AUT design lecturer and Richard Lewe, McCahon Residency artist and Wallace Award winner have now made their selection.

The talented winner of this year's award is Caroline Pae Pae with her entry, Life and After. She will receive a scholarship of $5,000 towards her tertiary art studiies. $500 will also be given to her art department at Kelston Girls College.

Also this year we are delighted to announce a new prize, kindly provided by Apix Photographic Supplies, with a value of $170, to the best photographic entry. This goes to Kathleen Riddell of Avondale College, who was also awarded 2nd place and $300 with her entry White World.

Nancy Jiang of Rutherford High School won 3rd place and $200 with her painting Be True to your Country.

The awards were presented by Councillor Ross Clow at Lopdell House Gallery on Thursday 11 September at 6pm. For all of the fianlists this is a great opportunity to aim high and to exhibit their work publicly. Come along and see what this new generation of artists are up to. The exhibition, held in the first floor Spiral Gallery, runs until 12 October.


Opening hours The gallery is open daily from 10am - 4.30pm, except Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day, Anzac Day morning and during exhibition installation. Admission is free thanks to the support of Waitakere City Council.
