2012 Term 1 Workshops

7 February - 5 April
Exhibition: White Cloud Worlds

This exhibition will inspire students to let their imagination run wild to produce fantastic original works of art whilst learning about the technology and innovation of the science fiction industry. If there is a particular theme you would like to incorporate into these workshops please let us know.

Magnetic comic strip

We will start this workshop by looking at the history of comic strips and animation. Students will then make a comic strip with a set of invented characters using cardboard, marker pens and magnetic paint. They will also use their imaginations to create a very exciting and atmospheric backdrop. The movable and interactive characters in the scene will create an ever-changing story. (yrs 1 – 8)

3D movie monsters

Using a special type of modelling clay, students will create a 3D creature for an imagined movie set. Students will look at some examples of models of creatures that have been made for films. Using clay-sculpting tools, natural materials and e-waste, students will create texture and body to their creature, finishing with paint washes to bring them to life. (yrs 1 – 8, art, technology)

Film set design

Set designers create a world for us to believe in using colours that create moods, and specialist paint techniques to set a scene. Students will get to find out what is involved in becoming a set designer for film and television. Using cardboard constructions and a combination of paint and ink to create an interesting atmosphere, students will create a 3D set with a science fiction theme to act as a location for a film. They will invent a new landscape with imaginative forms of plants, animals, and buildings. (yrs 3 – 8)
